Draped Sleeves, Ruched Waist, Room-Stopping Calm

You walk in and heads turn — and you don't have to adjust a thing.

The sleeves fall soft over your arms, covering them without hiding them.

The ruching gathers through the waist, so the fabric skims your middle instead of clinging to it.

No shapewear. No tugging.

Just you, standing still, looking like the most put-together woman there.

Cut wide through the middle — the ruching skims the stomach instead of clinging

✓ Cover your arms without looking covered up
The batwing sleeves drape long and soft from shoulder to wrist. Movement, not bulk — so your arms stay private while the gown still reads glamorous.

✓ A carved waist with zero shapewear
Gathered fabric runs across the bodice and waist, pulling the line in where you want it. You get the shaped middle without anything squeezing underneath it.

✓ One gown, six ways to not repeat yourself
Six colorways, so the gown you wear to the fall wedding isn't the gown in the holiday photos. Same flattering cut, different you.

✓ Floor-sweeping drape that moves when you do
Lightweight polyester falls smooth and long instead of standing stiff. It swishes on the turn and lies flat in photos — no wrinkled lap at the reception table.

Frequently asked questions

Can I wear a bra with the batwing sleeves and ruched bodice?
Yes. The bodice is opaque and the shoulders are covered, so a regular or strapless bra works fine. Many women find a smooth-cup bra sits best under the gathered fabric.

Will the ruching stay gathered after I sit down all evening?
It will. The gathers are sewn in, not pressed in, so they hold their shape through dinner and dancing. A quick smooth-down with your hand is all it needs.

Does it need to be hemmed if I'm wearing flats?
It's cut floor-length, so at 5'4" and under you'll likely want a heel or a short hem. Try it on with the shoes you plan to wear before the event to check where it lands.

How do I pack it for travel without creasing?
Fold it loosely along the seams and hang it in the bathroom during a hot shower. The polyester relaxes out of soft creases in about 10 minutes.

How to use

  • Step 1: Step into the gown from the top and pull the bodice up over your waist.
  • Step 2: Zip or fasten the back, then smooth the ruching flat with your palms from the bust down.
  • Step 3: Let the sleeves fall naturally from the shoulder — don't push them up. Give the skirt one shake to let the drape settle.

Use the fit finder next to the size selector for a recommendation in a few seconds, or see the full measurement charts below.

Every product page has a fit finder next to the size selector — three questions, one recommendation, a few seconds. These charts are for anyone who would rather read the numbers.

How to measure

  • Bust / chest. Around the fullest part, tape level, arms relaxed at your sides.
  • Waist. Around the narrowest part of your torso, usually just above the navel.
  • Hips. Around the fullest part, roughly 8 in below the waist.
  • Inseam. From the crotch seam to the floor, in the shoes you'll wear the trousers with.

Measure over the underwear you'd normally wear, not over clothing. Keep the tape snug but not tight.

How our pieces are cut

  • Dresses are cut true to size. If you are between sizes, take the smaller one — most of our dresses have ease through the waist.
  • Coats and jackets are cut with room for a knit underneath. Take your usual size; size up only if you layer heavily.
  • Knitwear is relaxed by design. Between sizes, take the smaller one unless you want an oversized look.
  • Trousers and jeans run true to size. Between sizes, take the larger one.
  • Shoes run true to size. If you have a wide foot, take half a size up.

Still not sure?

Write to info@halstead.com with your usual size, your height and the piece you're looking at. We'll tell you what we would pick — usually within a few hours. We would far rather get it right the first time than process a return.

We work in natural fibres — wool, cashmere, cotton, linen and full-grain leather.

Knitwear: cold hand wash or a wool cycle at 30 °C, no softener, dried flat and stored folded.
Coats: dry clean once or twice a season, stored on a broad wooden hanger.
Leather: wipe with a damp cloth, condition twice a year, never dry near heat.

Full guidance is on our Materials & Care page.

Before you order

How is this cut — will it fit if I am between sizes?

Use Find my size next to the size buttons: three questions about your height, build and how you like things to sit, and it gives you a size you can add to the bag from the same window.

As a rule, knitwear is relaxed and softens with wear, so the smaller size is usually right. Outerwear is cut with room for a knit underneath. Dresses and tailoring sit closer, and there we suggest the larger of the two. The measurements for this exact piece are in the Size & fit tab above.

What is it actually made of?

The fibre composition for this piece is listed in the description and on the label inside the garment. We work in natural fibres — wool, cashmere, cotton, linen and full-grain leather — and where a synthetic is blended in for stretch or structure, it is named rather than hidden behind a phrase like premium fabric.

How do I wash it without ruining it?

Knitwear: cold hand wash or a wool cycle at 30 °C, no fabric softener, dried flat and stored folded rather than on a hanger. Tailoring and structured coats go to a dry cleaner once or twice a season. Leather is wiped with a damp cloth and conditioned twice a year, never dried near a radiator.

The Materials & care tab above has the instructions for this piece specifically.

Is the colour true to the photographs?

The photographs are shot in daylight and retouched only for dust and creases, never for colour. That said, screens differ, and a deep navy or an olive can read warmer or cooler than it is on your particular monitor or phone.

If the exact shade matters, email info@halstead.com and we will describe it against something you already own — and if it still is not what you pictured, you have 90 days.

When will it arrive?

Two to four business days to pick, check and pack, then three to four business days in transit — five to eight business days in total, and shipping is free. You get a tracking link the moment it leaves the warehouse.

What if it is not right when it arrives?

You have 90 days from delivery, as long as the piece is unworn with the tags on. Email us with your order number and we send a printable return label the same business day.

Return postage is deducted from your refund — unless the piece arrived faulty or is not what you ordered, in which case we cover it in full.

Will my size come back if it sells out?

Not always. Collections are cut in limited runs for a season, so a sold-out colour or size may not return; some core pieces are made again the following year in a new palette. If you are waiting on a particular one, email us and we will tell you honestly whether it is coming back.

Do I save anything by ordering more than one piece?

Yes, and it applies on its own — there is no code to enter. Two pieces take 10% off, three take 15%, and four or more take 20%. The bag shows you how close you are as you add things.

Anything else, write to info@halstead.com — a person reads it, usually the same business day. We would far rather answer a question before you order than process a return afterwards.
